Knockhundred Translations provides translation and interpreting services to clients in the public and private sectors.
Professional
translators and interpreters and dedicated project managers plus the
most up-to-date technology combine to make our service high quality and
reliable. It's also competitive – we aim to match or beat quotations
from any other professional translation companies.
Translation
We offer translation services
in 175 languages. Our translators only translate into their mother
tongue. They also have specialist subject knowledge so they can combine
linguistic knowledge with subject knowledge. This ensures the highest
quality result.
Transcription
Working from any type of media, our experienced multilingual transcribers can supply either a verbatim transcript or a summary.
Much
of our work involves the transcription of court tapes, police
interviews, immigration interviews and solicitor/client meetings, but
we also produce transcripts for pharmaceutical companies, financial
companies, market research companies and a host of other market sectors.
Working
in over 150 languages, our transcribers can produce verbatim
transcripts where every word is recorded, or, if more appropriate to
your needs, they can produce a summary document which excludes any
unnecessary information.
We can handle just
about any format including CD, DVD, tape, video and most digital sound
files. Please bear in mind that the better the quality of the audio,
the faster and more accurate the transcription will be.
Proofreading
Any copy, whether in hardcopy
format or online should be proofread before being published. This rule
applies to text in any language. Our experienced proofreaders have an
eye for detail, and a perfectionist’s pleasure in getting it right.
Our
proofreaders can either compare the translation against the source
text, or proofread the translation without reference to the source
text. The proofreader will consider spelling, consistency, coherence,
check names, figures and symbols, grammar, punctuation and check for
omissions.
Interpreting
Working in over 150 languages,
our interpreters are rigorously vetted before they can work with us.
Our interpreters are experienced and can speak at least two languages.
For full details, please view our Quality Assurance policy.
It
is normal practice for an interpreter to interpret from a language that
is foreign to them, or at least not their mother tongue, into their
mother tongue. In this way, their understanding of meaning in the
source language will be rendered in the language in which they are most
skilful.
We fully understand that when an
interpreter is required sometimes only a minimal amount of notice can
be given. That is why our project managers will respond immediately to
a request for an interpreter. The more notice you are able to give us
however, the more chance there is of a suitable interpreter being
available on the requested day and time, and as close to the venue as
possible.
Interpreters have to work 'in the
field', without time for reflection or reference. Unlike translators,
they cannot access reference sources. It therefore goes without saying
that they need to be linguistically competent. They also need to be
socially and occupationally knowledgeable and resourceful.
On an assignment, all our interpreters adhere to the following code of practice:
- the interpreter shall render a complete and accurate interpretation
- the interpreter shall remain impartial
- the interpreter shall maintain confidentiality of all assignments
- the interpreter shall confine him/herself to the role of interpreting
- the interpreter shall be culturally sensitive.
Our
interpreters behave and present themselves professionally. They
understand the need for punctuality and compliance with any security or
other matters when on clients’ premises.
Many of
our interpreters have undertaken a Criminal Records Bureau check.
Please ask us if you particularly need an interpreter who has been CRB
checked.
