Adams Burt (H&S) Ltd was established in 1996 and has built up a reputation for providing a high quality professional service with a practical and pragmatic approach to health and safety in the workplace.

Our Principle Consultant, Geoff Burt, is a Chartered Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH) and a member of the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (MIIRSM). Geoff was previously the Deputy Head of Health & Safety for the Civil Aviation Authority.

Based in north Colchester we have a varied client base that takes in Scotland, and from the north down to the south coast.  We have a substantial presence in London.  You may wish to visit our Clients' page where you will see the activities range from national and local government, car hire, engineering and printers through to IT consultants, instrument manufacturers and builders.

Inevitably our experience also extends to advising clients on enforcement action and we are well versed in dealing on behalf of clients with the HSE, Local Authorities, and with Fire & Rescue Services.

Adams Burt (H&S) Ltd is an independent Health & Safety Consultancy committed to providing a high quality professional service to industry and commerce. The emphasis is on a practical and realistic approach that meets the legal requirements and provides you with a safe working environment.

Please take a few moments to look round our website and see what we can offer. Then call for impartial, expert advice on health and safety issues that affect you.

Risk Assessments

Risk Assessments are essential for identifying potential hazards and evaluating any risks associated with the work being carried out by your company.

A number of risk assessment packages are available, with varying degrees of sophistication, but unless the system is right you may be wasting valuable resourses.  We have a wealth of experience in developing practical assessments with our clients that meet the legal requirements, that are user friendly and will be right for your company.  Our hands-on approach will provide you with the assurance that risks are being effectively managed and remedial work properly prioritised.

Fire Risk Assessments are a mandatory requirement for all commercial premises and with the 2005 Fire Order increased emphasis is placed on the safety of employees and the ability to quickly and safely evacuate a burning building.  Our fire risk assessments fully cover all of the requirements of the new Order.

On Site Training

Our on-site training makes extensive use of practical exercises and delegate participation. We offer a wide range of courses tailored to your precise needs. All our courses include comprehensive course notes and a unique 'contact us' facility for delegates.

We can also provide bespoke courses.  An example is the preparation and delivery of a 'train the trainer course', in liaison with the local Council Highways Department for the fitting of child seats in hire cars.  Another recent example is the preparation and delivery of a Fire Assessor course designed to cover specific types of premises.
Subjects include:

    > Health and Safety for Managers
    > Working Safely for Employees
    > Risk Assessments
    > COSHH
    > Display Screen Equipment
    > Manual Handling
    > Working with Contractors
    > Electricity at Work
    > Fire Warden Training
    > Petrol - Delivery, Storage and Dispensing

 Auditing and Inspections

Auditing and inspection of the workplace is a significant proactive tool in the management of health and safety. With an in-depth view of your existing arrangements and a detailed report with our recommendations, you can see at a glance what action is needed and where.

We regularly carry out on-site inspections and audits of client premises.  Frequently we are told by managers that they are pleased to see our auditors and that it provides them with the reassurance that the arrangements are working but if not that guidance will be provided to put it right.

We work closely with our clients to help get the systems up and running and to keep them that way.  All our audit and inspection reports provide prioritised actions to allow you to judge the resources required and the priorities and timescales to work to.
