Central Studio is a small theatre situated on the campus of Queen Mary's College in Basingstoke.
The Studio hosts a number of events including, Comedy, Dance, Interactive Workshops and Live Music. Many of these are children friendly. Take at look at the what's on page for more information.
We have a number of rooms that are available for hire. These include the dance studios, theatre and the recording studio, as well as other smaller rooms.

equipment, and special effects equipment to both professional and
amateur groups.
Central Studio Theatre


Our fully air conditioned studio theatre is fitted with retractable, but not removeable, seating with an extra 30 loose chairs, available with tables for concerts and cabaret.
There are who PA systems available for use in the space; a hardwired system consisting of CD player, 16 channel mixing desk and front FOH speaker points. This is suitable for most theatrical uses.
For concerts there is a large PA available with a 48 channel mixing desk and up to 4 monitor sends.
Lighting is provided via a 96 channel ETC express control system with the lighting grid arranged in three octagons, following the shape of the theatre, with 3 upstage bars.
Hire charges include the use of all technical equipment. However, customers will be charged extra for equipment brought in especially for their show, piano tuning and loss or willfull damage of any equipment, staging, props, costumes or scenery.
Dance Studio

The dance studio is equipped with a sprung wooden floor, sound system (CD and Cassette), projector, portable dance bars, 8' high mirrors and is warm and well lit.
Most types of dance can be accommodated in the space with main exception being percussive dance forms such as tap etc.
The wearing of jewellery and other potentially sharp objects is prohibited in the dance studio and suitable dance footwear should be worn.
Hire is subject to the signing of a contract and tendering a 20% deposit.
Recording studio
Hire rates include a recording engineer start from just £30 per hour plus VAT.
Equipment
The recording studio consists of two live rooms and a control room offering the highest level of professional recording services at competitive rates. We pride ourselves on the high technical specification of our equipment coupled with a dedication to perfection in all our projects by our experienced engineers.
The 100 square foot control room is soundproofed, air conditioned and equipped with the latest industry standard Digidesign Protools HD hadware for multi-track recording and editing. We can offer up to 24 tracks of high definition recording in one take, with playback of up to 128 tracks when mixing down. Also available is more traditional industry standard DTRS (digital tape) should this be requested (up to 16 tracks).
Sound Engineers
Our engineers are extremely knowledgeable and have a wide range of experience recording many genres from single acoustic acts to rock bands, orchestral works and everything between. We are also experienced in composition and production of film soundtracks, radio jingles and documentary sound design.
Room 1 consists of a 420 square foot soundproofed room with a Yamaha US upright piano and acoustic dividers for seperation. There is a viewing window between the control room and the live room.
Room 2 is a 1500 square foot studio theatre suitable for up to a seventy-five piece ensemble and comes equipped with a careully maintained Yamaha C3 Grand Piano and seating for up to 130 people.
Facilities
There is ample parking and equipment can be unloaded at the studio door.
The studio complex includes an area for relaxation, basic kitchen facilities and unlimited tea and coffee for clients and a fully licensed bar area lending itself to an extremely comfortable and productive recording session or concert recording.
Previous clients have used the studio to record demo CDs, full albums, live concerts, talking books, seminars and training sessions, radio jingles and adverts an deven telephone answering system messages. Our recording engineer is also a skilled and experienced musician who will be able to advise you on how to get the best out of the recording session.
