I trained at the Alexander Re-education Centre in Berkshire and did a post-graduate course at the Constructive Teaching Centre in Holland Park, London, where I work with other teachers and trainee teachers on a regular basis. I attend refresher courses once or twice a year and am a member of the professional body STAT.
I had my first Alexander lesson in 1994. I was working as a journalist and ended up with diffuse RSI. The Alexander Technique was the only thing that had a lasting impact on my condition and I decided to train initially to help myself rather than as a career move. For me the most important thing about the Alexander Technique remains the fact that it is a wonderful means of self-help enabling us to make the best of what we have and who we are!
Teaching members of STAT are certified (MSTAT) to teach the Technique after successfully completing a three year, full time training course, approved by the Society or an affiliated society and are required to adhere to the Society’s published Code of Professional Conduct and to hold professional indemnity insurance.
